The Hidden Cost of Always Being “On”
There is a form of fatigue that is increasingly common in modern life, yet difficult to name.
It doesn’t come from physical exertion. It comes from constant availability.
Always being “on” means always being reachable, responsive, and mentally engaged. Even when you are not actively working, part of your attention remains occupied.
Over time, this creates a background level of nervous system activation that never fully resolves.

Why disconnection is a form of recovery

It is also about removing unnecessary input.
Periods of disconnection - no screens, no information, no demand - allow the nervous system to recalibrate.
These moments are not empty. They are regulatory.
They give the system space to return to itself.

When overstimulation decreases, something subtle happens.
The mind becomes quieter without effort. Energy feels more stable. Focus returns naturally rather than being forced.

And it only becomes available when “always on” is interrupted.
Less input, more presence
