Back to Basics

We’ve learnt to keep things simple and to focus on the core foundations needed for a healthy balanced life.

2020 was an opportunity to unwind, reset and refocus. Since having the chance to stop, we have become aware of what our bodies need to thrive. We’ve learnt to keep things simple and to focus on the core foundations needed for a healthy balanced life.

Below are five ‘Back to Basic’ steps that became essential during 2020 and that we will continue doing in the new year.

1. TAKE A WALK OUTSIDE

Since spending more time at home we have missed out on a lot of incidental steps. The solution? Take a 20-30 minute walk each day. Not only is it great for cardiovascular health, but walking works wonders for clearing the mind.

Try a new path, catch-up with a friend or just enjoy some time to yourself. Be grateful for the simple things like getting out in nature, the fresh air or exploring a different neighborhood.

2. GET MORE SLEEP

Having a reasonable bedtime can be hard (especially if you enjoy binge-watching Netflix!). However, getting to bed early and having 7-8 hours of sleep has been proven to increase longevity, boost our mood and reduce stress.

Having a regular sleep pattern also helps us to stay productive and motivated throughout our day.

3. HOME COOKED MEALS

When restaurants and cafes closed, time in the kitchen increased. Cooking can be therapeutic and we loved having the time to improve our skills and try new recipes.

Cooking delicious meals with family and friends is fun and rewarding. Get creative with fresh produce and whatever ingredients you have in the pantry.

4. HYDRATE OFTEN

Staying hydrated was hard when we were out of routine ~ did anyone else simply forget to drink water?!

Keeping a water bottle with you while you’re out and about or at home will keep you on track to drink 2-3 litres per day.

5. TAKE CARE OF YOUR SKIN

The foundations for clear skin come from a wholefood diet, lots of water and a regular skincare routine. Keep it simple and make sure you are doing the basics well.

We love using our rose quartz gua sha for a self-facial massage. Gua sha is a natural, alternative therapy that improves circulation and reduces inflammation using massage techniques. Perfect to reduce puffy eyes and relieve temple tension.
