Enhancing Detoxification with Infrared Saunas

ENHANCING DETOXIFICATION  Detoxification is one of the many loved benefits that we receive from having an infrared sauna. The three differing infrared wave lengths (near, mid and far) allows for detoxification that is 20% greater than that of a traditional sauna. However, there are some things we can do to make sure that we are getting the most out of the detoxification experience pre, during, and post sauna. Detoxification does not occur just from sweating, there are a number of organs and elimination pathways that come into play to aid our body in this process.

PRE INFRARED SAUNA

Make sure you are well hydrated.

Being adequately hydrated before we get in the infrared sauna, means that we have enough fluid in our body to create a substantial sweat, which will carry our toxins out. When dehydrated, our body will hold on to fluid for our internal environment.

DURING YOUR INFRARED SAUNA

Stimulating the lymphatic system.

Our lymphatic system carries around all of the ‘junk’ in our body. It runs alongside our circulatory system; however, it lacks the pump that is needed to keep it moving. This is where practices such as dry body brushing, using a body gua sha, doing some light stretches or elevating your legs for the first 10 mins of your infrared sauna can really help with stimulating the flow of your lymph towards our lymph nodes, which then leads to the filtration of the ‘junk’ out of our system.

SAUNA ADD-ONS

Utilising the add-ons we have at Nimbus infrared saunas, such as activated charcoal.

Activated charcoal is excellent to aid with detoxification during your infrared sauna as it acts as a ‘magnet’ in our large intestine and attracts any toxins we have in there, which enhances the elimination of these toxins through the bowels.

Our NIMBUS Cloud Form natural hydration supplement is a great way to stay hydrated before, during and after your infrared sauna.

POST INFRARED SAUNA

Supporting the liver.

The liver is our biggest detoxifying organ, therefore making sure it is working efficiently is crucial for optimal detoxification. There are many things we can do to support our liver health. Our liver loves cruciferous veggies such as broccoli and cauliflower, so opting for a meal containing these veggies post-sauna is a great and easy way to support the detoxification process. If you feel that your liver needs further support, you could opt for a consultation with a qualified naturopath who could put together a tailored herbal tonic. Liver-loving herbs include St Mary’s Thistle, Dandelion and Artichoke, just to name a few. Still, a naturopath can choose herbs that will specifically support your liver, based on your needs and current health status.

Another great post-infrared sauna ritual for me is using our NIMBUS CO body oil. It's naturally designed and created in Australia and is a good way to rehydrate your skin post your sauna.

Remember to be kind to your body.

If you are only just starting to incorporate infrared saunas into your routine, this is already such a great detoxifying tool and something that your body may take time to get used to, so don’t feel the need to incorporate all these things at once.  Build these things up in your life gradually and your body will be more receptive to the support, rather than overwhelming your system. Your body will thank you for it!
